Plus: ChatGPT & Shopify

Welcome to the first edition of Shop Pulse. Your ultimate weekly guide to Shopify and e-commerce trends. Let's look at this week's top stories:

  • Commerce Components & Google Cloud AI integration ๐Ÿค

  • ChatGPT & Shopify ๐Ÿ”Œ

  • Shopify Plus app report ๐Ÿ“ƒ

Commerce Components & Google Cloud AI integration ๐Ÿค

Google knows everything about you.

It knows you so well that it can recognize patterns in your shopping behavior - like what you click, add to your cart, and even about that 2 AM impulse purchase you made after having one drink too many.

A Google-commissioned survey found that retailers worldwide lose $2 trillion every year due to search abandonment.

Thatโ€™s Trillion with a capital T ๐Ÿ’ฐ

The integration will essentially create a better product discovery experience so consumers can find exactly what they want. But this is available only for the retailers currently using Commerce Components by Shopify.

One of the first brands to use this is Rainbow Shops, which is already seeing a 48% bump in search volume. Hereโ€™s hoping the integration eventually becomes available for all brands on Shopify.

ChatGPT & Shopify ๐Ÿ”Œ

It seems that every day you wake up to reports of 952 new things that ChatGPT can do. This week was no different.

Shopify announced its plugin for ChatGPT which is now available for Alpha users, with wider availability coming (soon I hope!).

The plugin looks powerful - offering shopping recommendations right inside ChatGPT, with links leading you directly to the product page. ๐Ÿคฏ

Developers are now whipping up entire Shopify apps in the blink of an eye.

If your blink is 1 hour long.

While expecting ChatGPT to craft complex apps might be a stretch right now, it is undeniable that it can massively speed up the development process.

Shopify Plus app report ๐Ÿ“ƒ

  • Klaviyo is the runaway winner with a 59% market share.

  • 5% market share is enough to put your app in the top 50. 15% catapults you into the top 5.

  • Review apps market is highly fragmented, with Shopifyโ€™s native review app leading with a 25% market share.

This is encouraging news, especially for up-and-coming app devs who think the market is too crowded.

Quite the opposite.

Pulse Check โšก๏ธ

  1. Built with Shopify applications are now open for all app developers. You gotta get all the app badges before you can apply though.

  2. Sendlane is hosting Season 12 of Commerce Roundtable on April 4th and 5th. Use code VIPZ to register for the event for free.

  3. Ex-Shopify CTO Allan Leinwand has joined Webflow. Does this mean a Webflow <> Shopify integration might be on the cards soon? ๐Ÿ‘€
