DMCA menace strikes again
The DMCA issue with Shopify has been a persistent thread of news in the past few months among all the announcements of features, partnerships, and acquisitions.
Just last week, a tweet by Boyuan Zhao went viral where he showed how bad actors are issuing DMCA takedowns to established brands for the sole purpose of disrupting and ruining their business.
How @Shopify's legal team killed this $700k pm brand

It worked out in the end with Bouyan getting his store back up and running, which he attributes to the video he shared in his earlier tweet getting a lot of attention.
But he is not alone. In the past week alone:
Saamir Mithwani, another Shopify entrepreneur shared how his store was taken down with the description of infringement as “Sit down lil bitch”.
AJ says fake DMCA takedowns led him to shutting down his store which did $1M+ in Q4 2022
Farhan shares how his daily revenue dropped from $2350 to just over $600 thanks to DMCA issues
Rawan’s 7-figure per month store was terminated by a DMCA takedown with the linked product pages not even active.
Varun even shared how easy it is to issue DMCA takedowns to your competitors with very little effort, going to show how broken the current system is.
Please fix this broken system, It can't be that easy to do this.
Hundreds of people are doing this a day. What if a big brand like GymShark Or YoungLA got hit with like 5 fake dmcas, will you give more support for them?
What about the smaller ecom (50-500k p/m) stores...?… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

Here’s hoping that there are some concrete steps taken in the near future to stop these bad actors.
POS terminal hardware launch
Shopify has launched POS Terminal - a new piece of hardware to level up the retail sales experience.
With the POS Terminal, merchants can:
Offer tap, chip, and swipe as payment options
Get WiFi & Ethernet for solid connectivity
Can show itemized purchases on the screen to their customers as they are checking out
Show a custom image / design when the terminal is not in use to highlight their brand and logo
step up your in-store selling with the new POS Terminal—our most powerful countertop payment device within our Retail Collection
here’s what you can expect from the POS Terminal 👇
